NEWS: Any VIMA students completing the Combined Crew/Dayskipper Course after September 15th 2010 will receive complimentary use of our Cal 20’s, terms are as normal club membership (see below) and will be complimentary for 6 months from your course start date.

ClubSail boats are our Cal 20’s and a Cal 28. Members have access to our boats for their own personal sailing, allowing time on the water for practice between courses or general leisure.

Members can bring friends and family as guests as well as having access to our instructors for advise and tips.

Members are encouraged to sail together; most are students of the school and eager to find sailing partners to explore this new hobby.

Membership is available to anyone with a Basic Cruising certificate, we will complete an in-depth orientation to our boats and sailing area before your membership is complete.

Boats are available 7 days a week, 365 days of the year and operate from Westbay Marine Village , Oak Bay and Sidney.

Membership Fees

  • $250 Retainer (One time fee)

  • $149 per month (3 month minimum sign up)

  • $25 Guest Fee

Members must have completed the Basic Cruising standard or equivalent

Clubsail membership

Purpose of VIMA ClubSail:

  • Provide safe and supportive access to sailing for VIMA students
  • Members to gain experience and skill, outside of an Instructor lead environment
  • Allow members to sail together, create a social sailing and learning environment
  • Provide sailing specific seminars and events

Conditions:

All Full and Partial members must complete an orientation of the boat and sailing area with a VIMA Instructor.

  • Operations in the Inner Harbour (Commercial traffic, Sea Planes)
  • Where to Hoist and De-Rig Sails
  • Anchoring Zones
  • Local Current and Weather Conditions
  • Safety Equipment and use
  • Bookings must be made with as much notice as possible (recommended 7 Days) to ensure members have guaranteed unlimited access to the boats
  • During the summer months bookings can be tight and full members are encouraged to sail together whenever possible
  • VIMA cannot guarantee members will have the boat to themselves every time they book

Members are required to:

  • Complete a safety brief with any crew before departure
  • Fill out a pre-departure checklist, and a Trip log for every trip
  • Note any maintenance issues
  • Refuel at the end of the trip
  • Record any first aid administered
